Title: [VIDEO] Speed Texturing: Turret
Post by: mopython on July 24, 2014, 10:48:04 PM
We want to inform you that we have brand new YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/Murnatan) and in fight for your subscriptions we even have a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM6t1b8s-y0&list=UU-yYKSAqpdERKJAmsQ-5jyQ) in it! It's a turret speed texturing by Tomáš Drahoňovský and as a vid name suggests, it's about making a beautiful texture for a turret. And recording it on a video. With speed.

But it's not just one texture, why you should look at it. It's more of them, because human structures will have three phases (new, damaged and destroyed) and the buildings will rot and rust with more damage they get.

It has to be little fat because of gameplay. Do not forget that Quake 3 engine using boxes for collisions so when you shoot air inside of box then it is hit. But UE4 detect it by polygons for shots and by complex collisions for physics and slim turret would break gameplay because you can build more of them on small place and you can shoot through air near/inside/around turret and that is also reason why would be much harder to hit Turret by aliens and even more harder to hit it by alien projectiles.

Yes i realize that and thats why i thought it was a little too fat but I guess gameplay will show it better and eventually later you probably could balance it if needed.

Looks just fine to me, lol.

After all, all of those complex targeting, friend/foe, and firing circuits and controls have got to go somewhere.
