Title: Looking for a volunteer voice actor?
Post by: Rex on March 04, 2018, 03:39:31 PM
Hello, guys.
I used to be a massive fan of the old RCZ Tremulous servers back in the day (I was the annoying little guy called BATTLE[Granger] who had a mild obsession with sticking trappers on everything).

I found out on Facebook that Murnatan's close to being released, and I'm wondering if you need any extra voice actors for the game (because I would love to volunteer!).

My previous narration/podcast work ranges from a formal role to that of an announcer (as demonstrated in the examples below) and I would be more than happy to record example lines in whatever voice you need.

Narration example from an ad I voiced:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Har8xkdJGoU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Har8xkdJGoU)

Intro from a podcast I used to co-host:
https://vocaroo.com/i/s0k0smffSdnt (https://vocaroo.com/i/s0k0smffSdnt)

Bonus gag from the aforementioned podcast:
https://vocaroo.com/i/s1FpbdFzzCji (https://vocaroo.com/i/s1FpbdFzzCji)

I can post extra examples in the thread, or discuss anything over Discord/Skype/Paper cups with string on them.

Thanks for reading!

COME ONNNNNNNNN!

nice joke there, but can you do a Sarge voice!?

COME ONNNNNNNNN!

I had to gargle a few razor blades for the signature rasp, but here's one of many attempts:

Here's an attempt with a bit less gravel:

And here's a little something extra because the aliens in this game are now floofy rather than being insectoid killing machines:

the third one got me laughing :DDDD

your voice is made for voice acting that's for sure, well done, the 'come on' should be more rash and louder though, imo, imagine yourself to be a captain ready to fight to death and you tell to the soldiers under your order "COME ON!" :D

but then there's the microphone problem, it might not pick up such loud voices in a good way

I'll give it a try tomorrow, after I've tweaked a few things to keep the mic from overloading, thanks :)

no problem, if i sound like i want too much, it's not intentional... i am just trying to give a suggestion, since you have quite the potential

It's no problem at all! My home is empty tomorrow, so I'll get less funny looks from people when recording the shouts. It's also a good time if you want other samples.

Additionally, will there be tutorial videos/regular dev logs in need of commentary á la Natural Selection 2?

gotta wait for Rota/community manager to appear to answer that, though that'd be cool as the devs would stay in touch with the community

I did a few takes, so here a few quick and dirty draft recordings (They're a little quiet for now):

Closest to the Trem original:
https://vocaroo.com/i/s0OFc88I49Hw (https://vocaroo.com/i/s0OFc88I49Hw)

Similar to the first but with a longer final syllable:
https://vocaroo.com/i/s1wACZVRjMNW (https://vocaroo.com/i/s1wACZVRjMNW)

Crude British shout (KUM ONNNN):
https://vocaroo.com/i/s1Io9M0dMHCr (https://vocaroo.com/i/s1Io9M0dMHCr)

Gravel and steroids for breakfast:
https://vocaroo.com/i/s1t7thhZITZA (https://vocaroo.com/i/s1t7thhZITZA)

Loud and grumpy:
https://vocaroo.com/i/s10H2v63qEbH (https://vocaroo.com/i/s10H2v63qEbH)

These were just a few quick takes, when actually making proper sound files I'll adjust the mic a little better and compensate for reverb. :)

That is amazing :D Definitely better than current bought sound "hey". I could implement it even before release, but I have to figure out some licensing things first.

Also I can implement all 5 sounds and randomly use different ones to be more interesting.

It could be also good to create same sounds for Battlesuit - just add some robot filter.

If you want to do it, please upload mp3 files (or better waw 16 bit mono 44100 Hz).

I'll re-record the lines later today with the same sort of variations (and try to mimic the battlesuit effect).
Do you want any other sounds to be recorded while I'm at it?  :D

Good.
Well, there is not much sounds from humans. Only dying sounds - that have also few variations. But I would wait with this after release.

I've recorded around four regular taunts, three battlesuit taunts, plenty of pain sounds (just in case) and a few attempts at alien growls/bellowing (If you want a sound, I'll make it! :P ).

If you need any more human sounds, I can record them in the week, but please check out the alien examples too, because I really think I can help with more than being the meat-headed marine character! :D
