Was just looking on some people who don't like what rota is making, they're arguing with copyright issues and so on. What there has copyright and what not? They also said that they can't copy ingame sounds but these sounds are for free use. So what's true of this shit?

The engine will probably require paying $ to the Epic.
The content (gfx, sound, maps) is entirely made from scratch, so malcontents can fuck off.

Well but if AAA games will use sounds from Tremulous there won't be any issue afaik... Models can look same but they're made from nothing...
About that engine renting, I never heard such a thing, I don't think it's really so.

Loki: Tremulous 1 source code and assets are under licenses, in short - if you will use it, you have to release it under same license (open source).
It is irrelevant, because like grmg.pl said, we did not using anything from old source code or assets. If you, or anyone will not trust us, sue us and you will lose.
I don't know why you mentioned sounds separately, but true is, that even Tremulous 1 using some sounds against his own license. So they (haters probably) should first solve real copyright issues in Tremulous 1.
There is one funny thing - if you will download Tremulous 1, you can sell it and make money (it is allowed by license). But when you will make own game from scratch, then it is suddenly bad?

We do not use sounds/anything from Tremulous 1.
There is only one possible way, how to use same sounds:
Find CD with sound library and that sound on it, buy it, improve that sound to better quality, use it.

It is. Basic fee for UDK is 25 % from income. It can be less or none, depend on what kind license will buy.

Ok thanks for telling me about that engine, that's new thing to me.
So GPL license is free to use and it is possible to sell such software under this license? That's kinda sucky...
I also heard that one man was selling Tremulous on iStore or wherever it was...
_____________
Just now I had a look and they were saying something about similarity of models, that this is also copyright issue... Ok anyway I am excited to hear new sounds of aliens :P

I want the same granger sounds :/

If you will include source code etc., then yes.

Yes, but without source code (alteast what I heard), so it was illegal.

Sure. Maybe even FPS style of game is copyright issue... ;)

Yes, it is (patent, not copyright).
Now OpenSource (kind of ideology) is the one that is opposing this :)

I think that this is most difficult thing on Tremulous 2, because we want to have same Granger sound too. We will spend many hours with creating similar sound and I hope that we will success.

Oh but I am not, my intelligence challenged cupcake :)
In fact game play CAN BE PATENTED (copyrighted actually too... well some fucking kind of infringement as asshole corporations call their imaginary property).
There was a story of clone (or remake?) of X-COM Apocalypse from microprose (best tactical game ever).
They abandoned their project afair from serious fears regarding owners of xcom intellectual so-called property suing them because they recrated same *gameplay*.
EDITED hmm not sure, was it ufo2000? their forum is down where they (or similar game) announced such end.
@rotack are you sure that just using some assets will make entire game using them as forced open source?
You know what you can do probably?
Auto-install our good old tremulous GPP while installing trem2.
And make tremulous2 use the GPP's granger sound if installed.
(but I'm not a lawyer currently)

There was actually a movie that used the marauder dying/death sound pitch-perfectly.
John Carter(2012) Search your favorite streaming/t0rrentz site, watch, about 25min in enjoy green things make maurader death sounds when they hatch. (Ironic?) :P
