Okay, so in the current version the sniper rifle does 38 damage. Great for dealing with Pitins and the occasional stray Granger, but right now it's useless at dealing with a Pum (200hp) unless there's another player supporting.
Were the damage values for the Mass Driver in 1.1 the same? Because right now it's a little underpowered.

imo you should NOT be able to take on a pum with a sniper rifle on your own

Ah, ok.
What would you say is the ideal environment for it? So far my only successes with it have been the corridor in Boxfield and Jettarding in the open spaces in Tenura.

The sniper (mass driver in tremulous) was always a tool for catching out small aliens and finishing off big ones that were running away.  Never was it useful for chunking down a lot of hp.  In group of 3-4 humans attacking there would only be one sniper user who's sole responsibility is to control small aliens that attack in numbers.  Larger targets and structures are targeted by the rest of the group: shotguns, chainguns and the like

If that's the general consensus, then I stand corrected! :P

yeah well that's basically the way MDs worked as roles back in Trem, especially in clan wars

Waiting for more stability, full server browser, and admin accounts before we think about setting up our own server.  We'll see.  A lot of things need to happen between then and now.

As far as the MD... correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it used to be around 48-52 damage per hit with 7 round mags when battpack is equipped?

I'd like to see a dot style crosshair for the MD, too... it's a twitch weapon like the shotgun.  Need to have a really small dot instead of trying to center up a big ole mess of lines.

I am unsure, but I believe that with a 200 hp goon, getting shot once would lower your HP to 162, as far as I remember from all those years of playing
