If you played or you are still playing Tremulous, you probably know about problem with FPS, which drops dramatically on the maps with many buildings. Trem was made in Quake 3 engine and even fifty buildings could result in low FPS. With more than fifty then the game often runs in almost unplayable 0-4 frames per second.

So how we dealt with it in Murnatan? Let's see our progress so far in a little test.

We made an open, unoptimized map and cloned it with 1100x Teslas. We believe 1100 is amount that is preposterous enough (since in the game you can never use this much, simply because there would be no space for players left). While Quake 3 practically used just boxes for all the objects, our UE3 Teslas have a complex collision model.

And we have good news, especially for the fans of unlimited servers:
even with that amount of structures the game would be playable without any problems.

Check the screenshots & FPS.

Looking promising so far, is that going to be one of the playable maps for the game?

It's funny seeing so many of those things toppled all over the place, lol.  Textures are looking good, btw.

I presume they've reconstructed the engine pretty much so it'd be a study-a-lot-again thing

UE4 is too expensive. Maybe for Murnatan 2 :)
