I and the other Contra leaders have been discussing the potential problems arising from the decision to make this game free to play, and we have come up with a server security protocol that we would like to see in this game.

In order to combat the tendency of determined individuals to repetitively create new credentials to circumvent a ban, we would like to have the option of barring Steam accounts from our servers that have recently been created within 'x' days/weeks.

By setting a minimum account age in days or weeks, we hope to diminish the capacity of determined individuals to incessantly persist in nuisance/hostile behavior on our servers.  Requiring an account to be older than a specified value should establish a minimum "waiting period" for these sorts of individuals before they can attempt to reconnect and evade our ban again.

While this is not a perfect solution, it would present a much less destructive alternative to subnet banning.

Good idea. Another thing that can help. Like you said, it is not perfect solution, but together with other solutions it could be very good thing.

It means it would often lead to a barrier for children. I was a child who grew up with Tremulous so I wouldn't want to have that opportunity taken away from me, as quality servers taught me a lot. Toxic community (children including), if concentrated in one or several servers, will 'intoxicate' others.

It's a good feature of course, I am for it, but the problem is like I said - lack of quality servers for children, a place where they can learn new stuff, meet decent people, learn how to play with better players and eventually learn how to behave on the internet.

I certainly hope that a number of people will make an effort to build worthwhile communities in Murnatan.  That's always been one of the biggest complaints I've had with Tremulous:  A great percentage of the population is quite simply a degenerate cesspool.  It was like that on day one, and remains so to this day.

It is a very exacting science to design a set of rules for a server that will not only remove offenders both reliably and fairly, but also tolerate human faults and emotion.

To this end, we've come up with some very innovative ideas over the last few years that we would like to test once Murnatan is ready for alpha.  I think we might have gotten pretty close to achieving a stable balance between both goals.
